Only 12 miles east of downtown Cleveland, Pepper Pike is a great place to live, with a wide variety of housing styles situated on mostly one-acre lots. Until well into the 20th century, it was primarily a farming community, with cheese-making being the primary industry. Although still rural at the turn of the 20th century, the city’s growth was stimulated by the building of the Chagrin Falls-Cleveland Interurban Railway in 1897, which made the community easily accessible to downtown Cleveland with its hourly service.

Pepper Pike has maintained continuity between the traditional past and a more progressive present, with an eye on a sustainable future. Nearly two-thirds of residents take part in the recycling program, making Pepper Pike one of the greenest municipalities in Cuyahoga County. The National Arbor Day Foundation has long recognized the city for its commitment to tree-planting and environmental stewardship.
